Here's Demon Hunter's latest blog from their myspace:

quote:

Hunters, we are happy to announce that our fifth album will be entitled "The World Is A Thorn" and it will be available in stores and online March 9th.  The album was produced by our longtime friend, Aaron Sprinkle and mixed by producer Jason Suecof and is simultaneously our heaviest yet most melodic project thus far.

We'd also like to officially introduce and welcome Ryan Helm of The Ascendicate as our new guitarist.  This is an exciting time all around and we hope you will stay tuned for updates on art, music and pre-orders.

- DH

This is excellent news as I really like Demon Hunter and have been very impressed by their musicianship and artistry in recent years. I'm not really bothered by the new members as DH are just that type of band imo. However I'm always a little cynical when bands say that albums are both their heaviest and most melodic simultaneously. Norma Jean said exactly the same thing about the Anti Mother and in no way was it as heavy as BTMKTC or O God the Aftermath! But knowing DH's style they often juxtapose straight metal songs with ballads throughout their album so I'm guessing the new album will follow that formula as well. The release date is sooner than I had thought which will hopefully mean we get to hear some new music pretty soon!

Oh this is wonderful, thank you for posting! The release date is indeed quite near, but that's only a good thing. I really hope this won't be like STGOF because I still think it's their worst album. As for the new guitarist, I didn't even know that Don left (or then I just forgot)... This new guy definitely has some shoes to fill because I've always felt that where DH isn't a complex band, they have a huge amount of originality, particularly what comes down to the guitars. That is probably one of the key reasons why they're at the top of the metalcore genre, too. Anyhow, I'll, for one, be looking forward to any new material they might put out next. I can already sense that this is going to be an amazing year with so many different releases upcoming...

Ryan Clark is one of my favourite all time lyricists along with Sonny (naturally), dan wayandt from Zao and Bruce Fitzhugh from LS. Personally I can't wait to hear what he's written this time and if the album title is anything to go by then this will be a very strong album indeed! I wouldn't worry about the musical direction of the new album, with new members its bound to be different from STGOH.

Ryan is one of my favorites as a lyricist as well, though it was never about the lyrics when I started listening to DH. Lately I've been reading into them more and I'm impressed. I guess you're right with the new members affecting the sound too. Let's just hope they post some songs soon (or some sort of samples at least) so that we can hear the change ourselves

Oh yeah, and I think that the title of the album might just be my favorite one from the band. I think it's deeper than the other ones have been. The album should be strong judging by it indeed...

I'm sure we'll hear some new music soon, normally bands start promoting albums a few months in advance. My guess would be if we don't hear anything by the end of this month then definitely in February

taken from solidstate.com

The World Is A Thorn
"The World Is A Thorn" was produced by the band's longtime collaborator Aaron Sprinkle (Acceptance, Anberlin, The Almost) and mixed by powerhouse producer Jason Suecof (All That Remains, Trivium). It's a pairing emblematic of how skillfully Demon Hunter has always blended metallic might with melody.

It's a well-worn cliche these days for a band to say their new album is "our heaviest but also our most melodic," but Demon Hunter delivers in spades with this release. Songs like "Descending Upon Us," "Lifewar" and the title track are by far the most aggressive of the band's career, "This is the Line" and "Collapsing" are a couple of the fist-pumping but still hard-driving anthems and "Driving Nails" is one of two ballads on the album the likes of which their fans have come to both expect and cherish.

The album formally introduces guitarists Patrick Judge (who joined the band as a touring guitarist in 2008 and is now a full-time member) and Ryan Helm (of The Ascendicate) with a new batch of songs written by co-founder and vocalist Ryan Clark. Yogi Watts returns with another jaw-dropping drum performance, backed up by longtime bass player Jonathan Dunn. "The World Is A Thorn" is a definitive mission statement from a band at a creative apex, firing on all cylinders with awe-inspiring intensity.

"The album title refers to the often harmful and destructive world that we live in," explains Clark. "Most of the songs deal with the current state of the nation and the world as a whole. In particular, the lyrics take aim at the ideals of a Godless people and the depletion of our morals and values."

Only 2 ballads... What a relief. Really liking what I've read about the album so far in general. Thanks for posting

yeah I'm glad they've kept the ballads to a minimum (not that there's anything wrong with DH's ballads though) I am now quite curious to hear how heavy these other tracks are going to be, especially with the influence from the newest members.

Oh that's good news! Yeah, I think we'll hear some new songs on myspace or wherever very soon, because the release date is very close and it sounds like songs are almost done... mostly acording to what Trubywarrior posted about the description of the album.
I personally don't worry about the way they will go on with this album, because as it has already been said, they always have been both melodic and heavy, so this may just be the continuity of their career Now, I don't know The Ascendicate band (not yet, at least), but even if the new guitarist must bring his own style to DH, it can't change everything... so, I'll be waiting for this one too!

And I agree, this new year has just begun but already many wonderful new albums are planned!

Wow, this cover is much better!

I am curious to see how this new DH lineup will sound like. I am still happy to see Yogi at The Showdown, those dudes are amazing.

Just a question, whats up with this normal vs deluxe album stuff? Who in the world dosnt want the deluxe?

DH did that with their last album and I think it's becoming more common for solid state to run these deals. I guess the ordinary version is so that people who do not have much disposable income can still buy the album. It would be discriminatory if they only released a deluxe version that some people couldn't afford.

pre-order bundles are now available, with some pretty sweet deals including t-shirts, caps, badges etc! I just went for the Deluxe version of the album with extra tracks, artwork and dvd as I don't need any more t-shirts. They also have the first new song on their myspace 'Tie this around your neck' - it's pretty cool Nice heavy riff, they've definitely changed things up since STGOH, DH just keep evolving. Personally I'm quite optimistic about where they're going, DH are a band who continually impress me both with their musicianship and artistry.

I'm really getting into the new music, they have three tracks up now, the latest being their lead single and I have to say I've been really impressed with all three. Maybe just maybe they're actually going to come true on it being their most melodic and yet heavy album to date statement. I really like the new direction too, its refreshing. I love how they keep reinventing themselves whilst managing to maintain some continuity such as through the artwork and Ryan Clarke's lyrics.
