LionSoulJah -> Ok, so this has me worried... (6/4/2008 10:20:33 AM)

I just realized that Testify was in the top 25 on the Billboard 200 for 16 weeks....and it still only reached like 250,000 sales...while WA&SD was in the top 25 for ONE WEEK....and has just been hovering at some place at the bottom now for like 6 weeks...

*facepalm*

trubywarrior -> RE: Ok, so this has me worried... (6/4/2008 12:15:15 PM)

don't worry about it, yeah Testify has done better initially than WA&SD but remember, it had a #1 TRL music video and the Warriors Tour II. If WA&SD second single gets into the TRL chart I'm sure that would be great promotion for the new album. Secondly I'm sure the Warriors Tour III will help album sales as well. WA&SD has got off to a slow start but hopefully it will have more life in it than Testify; Testify was kind of killed in its prime, what with P.O.D. parting ways with Atlantic. But with P.O.D.'s new deal with Columbia/INO I'm sure that WA&SD will be able to serve its lifespan with a few singles and major tours. I still think that WA&SD could do really well commercially. P.O.D.'s next choice of single will affect a lot. Let's hope and pray they make the right decision and release something like Shine With Me. I really think that song has good single potential. [:)]

714 Represent -> RE: Ok, so this has me worried... (6/4/2008 4:13:22 PM)

i think they need to have about 4 singles just like they did with satelite because it really helps out when you have alot of singles

i think shine with me, and god forbid could be good choices cuz people need to know that these guys still got it

mr_dreadlocks -> RE: Ok, so this has me worried... (6/4/2008 4:35:34 PM)

ah i think WA&SD is a bit of a let down. testify's my favourite album, with satellite and TFEOS following close behind.

i like the reggae soul, funk hiphop sound. WA&SD doesn't give much...

jessikaitalyfanpod -> RE: Ok, so this has me worried... (6/20/2008 4:12:03 AM)

wizardwarrior -> RE: Ok, so this has me worried... (6/20/2008 10:25:05 PM)

Okay Kids let me just give you some Food for thought about the current brutal reality of Today's music business.
In case you don't watch the CD sales Stats, you should realise that this is 2008 and the music landscape is now so different now than in 1999.
Back then people Bought CDS and many bands and their Labels enjoyed good income through CD sales. Now the Internet has taken over and people have a much easier way of accessing music than having to buy CDS from the stores. You can now download songs from the Comfort of your Home at a much cheaper price and also save Fuel money.Because of this New trend now,Labels are now collapsing and cannot be able to recoup money from bands anymore and hence they cannot spend any cash on promoting bands. These days Labels just sign bands and let them work their way out of the Dark. Its become pointless for them to spend money on promoting Bands knowing they will not recoup that money back.
We are also facing souring Fuel prices and bands are finding it hard to Tour these days and if you even check music News, you will hear plenty sad stories of bands dropping Off Tours because they cannot afford to Tour.
So Its become unrealistic to expect a band like POD to sell Gold or Platinum records these days because people no longer buy CDS these days,Its just a sign of the times. Buying Tracks from Itunes has made it cheaper for fans  but will only make it harder for bands and their Label to break even.
So this is my Knowledge of this music business since I had been involved in it and have friends who are still in bands,  and want to call it quits because times have become so brutal.
MTV used to be powerful Tool to Prop up bands in 1999  because people back then were buying CDS in big numbers. These days now MTV is experiencing weak ratings and an appearance on MTV or TRL these days won't make much of a difference in CD sales because of reasons already explained.
So I'm not writting to damp on your wishes for POD,I'm just writting for you to understand the grim realities of this music business in 2008.IF WAASD scans 100K albums then that would be equivalent to A Gold Album in 1999.But It is now become Logically Impossible for WAASD to scan 500 K these days.Even 50 cent and all other Pop Artists who were selling Multiplatinum or Diamond records in 1999- 2001 are now struggling to get Gold Albums in 2008.

Its great to support your fav band but also have realistic expectations and put our current times in Context.

that's comforting if it's a true reflection on the music industry today! I hear what you are saying Wizardwarrior, and thank you for trying to explain the score. Personally I'd love to see WA&SD go Gold, partly for old times sake for P.O.D., but also because I genuinely think this is a mature, sophisticated album that people will like. It really bugs me the way the download market for mp3s has taken over. I'm a bit old fashioned I still prefer cds. So I suppose I just want people to think more like me and buy the cd rather than downloading it.  By the way, does itunes sales count toward album certificates? I mean could P.O.D. make Gold status with combined album and download sales?[&:] To be honest I think they should count them, especially if it is becoming the predominant medium through which people buy music!!!

Ruth -> RE: Ok, so this has me worried... (6/21/2008 12:42:29 PM)

Well said wizardwarrior.

podave -> RE: Ok, so this has me worried... (6/21/2008 1:55:09 PM)

1 mill is platnum, 500k is gold, i guess 300k is silver or something

714 Represent -> RE: Ok, so this has me worried... (6/21/2008 2:24:21 PM)

im with truby warrior i prefer cds better because you can put them in a stereo with powerful speakers i just think there better quality

also i think they should change the whole platnium gold thing
like wizard warrior said that people just dont buy anymore maybe they should make 500k sales being platnium and like 300k sales gold

There is no silver.

Gold, 500,000 copies sold, is the lowest/first RIAA certification award.

wizardwarrior -> RE: Ok, so this has me worried... (6/21/2008 10:55:22 PM)

I'm sorry to say that Digital Downloads are not counted together with CDS sales.Downloads are compiled seperately and that will likely remain the same. The Biggest problem with Downloads is that fans Download tracks and not the entire Album. Here It costs about $1.60 to download/purchase a track and a CD costs about $23.00.
So take for Instance a fan who checks out WAASD and he decides to purchase about 3 tracks and Ignores other songs he does not like.So this fan would have spend only a totall of $4.80 ,instead of having to buy the entire CD for $23. Now do the math and work out the lost Revenue for the Label just by the action of one fan.Now If more people/fans use this method of purchasing then the lost Revenue just gets worse for bands and Labels.
Lets say for Instance another fan becomes Generous and Downlaods all tracks and ends up spending a total of $17.60.So either way the lost Revenue is still significant in this case.

Another way to Incourage fans to Buy CDS is to now release HD Cds with bonues features. Its something Record Labels are thinking of doing otherwsie they will be out of business pretty quick.

The other side of this Tragedy is that other Genre Bands have not been affected by these changes and have actually benefited from this.
For example a typical band Like OPETH has really benefited from this because of their style of music.Opeth is a band that does not write singles, they write marathon songs and their Tracks are so Interlocked that you have to Listen to the Entire Album rather than pick tracks.
So It makes no sence for fans to just purchase tracks from their Albums because It will sound like someone eating a half cooked steak. So their CD sales have pretty much remained the same despite these times because fans still buy their  CDS because it makes more sence that way. They released an Album a few weeks ago called Watershed and that Album debued at number 1 in Finland, and was Top 10 in many countries around the World. Its the First time they ever achieved such High chart positions like that.
BACK IN 2002 such an Album would have sold similar  Figures but would not made number 150 on the charts. But these days many Mainstream acts are selling less Albums,so this has norrowed the Gap with Underground bands.
So don't be surprised to see a band like Cannibal Corpse debuing an Album in the Top 10 because the Gap has narrowed.
So Mainstream bands are now struggling while certain Extreme bands are actually benefiting from these changes.

Getting back to POD,I believe their latest Album is easily their best Musically and Sonny worked really hard on his singing. The CD sales of WAASD is only a reflection of the tough times and not on the bands Improved music quality.

trubywarrior -> RE: Ok, so this has me worried... (6/23/2008 9:39:53 AM)

glad to get your opinion on WA&SD wizardwarrior![;)][:)]

trubywarrior -> RE: Ok, so this has me worried... (6/30/2008 4:19:49 AM)

WA&SD must have dropped out of the billboard 200 as I just checked the billboard website, searched for P.O.D. and it came up with their chart position in the Christian chart only. They're currently #21 in the Christian chart but no mention of them in the 200! Let's hope with their remaining summer festivals and hopefully the national release of shine with me as their next single it can propel WA&SD back into the 200!!!

podave -> RE: Ok, so this has me worried... (6/30/2008 7:07:15 AM)

News Flash TRL.....No one cares anymore!! Fuse is even starting to turn mtv with the "reality game show" gay shit! You Tube is where it's at now....Weezer Pork and Beans(worst weezer album to date) But you couldn't tell that by the album sales they have a hardcore fan base *Hugh in China and Japan* that eats them up...i'm one...They have a kick ass video that honestly makes fun of You tube*shhh* don't tell the "you tube stars" in the video....Columbia needs to get on board and down with the modern music fans like interscope.

trubywarrior -> RE: Ok, so this has me worried... (6/30/2008 9:56:59 AM)

P.O.D. do have their own youtube channel as well as myspace TV channel so I think they are in touch[;)]

Wizardwarrior is absolutely right, although he failed to mention the entitlement mentality fans seem to have these days, with the easy availability of illegal downloads. Everyone I Know downloads illegally. I've been in a number of arguments about it, too. It's like people genuinely have come to think that they have a right to free access of copyrighted materials. Nobody ever thought that way before. Even when people used to actually steal music, games or movies, they did so quietly and behind the scenes. Today everyone thinks it's the way things are supposed to be, like artists are supposed to invest all the months , hard work and money into creating media for you to steal. It's not just music, either. PC gaming has all but died as a result of piracy.

That's the real problem.

Don't get me wrong, I love CDs and I hate to see them fade out to digital downloads. And I am saddened by the lack of reverence for complete albums. I guess I'm just old school, but the idea of buying single songs just doesn't appeal to me. I hear a song I like, then check out the album. If I like enough of it, I'll buy it. If I only like a couple tracks, I don't want the album. It's not worth my money. But if I just bought a couple of tracks, they would always feel like an incomplete body of work to me... </tangent>

But yeah, Firebird is right. Everyone I know steals music, too. And none of them seem to think it's wrong. I hear stuff like, "Why should I buy something I can get for free," "Those rich muthaf-----s don't need my money," "I can't afford to buy music, it's too expensive," or "I buy CDs from the people I really like."
And one of my favorites, "I just download to check it out. If I like it I'll buy it." Right, and if you don't, you delete it, right? Pshh.

If I even say something like, "Yeah, I'm going Best Buy to get the new P.O.D. album," I get laughed at. "Why would you buy CDs?!"

Htownwarrior -> RE: Ok, so this has me worried... (7/1/2008 9:38:57 AM)

I'm old school like The Vines. I think artists should be judged by the albums they put out, not by a small minority of their songs. I also think that the quality of popular artists has gone down with this whole itunes era. People write singles now, not albums because that's what the masses want right now. I even know of some underground rappers who are starting to just put out five songs a month- they're not even making CDs anymore because it's so not economical (is uneconomical a word?). It's a sad thing for music fans. And so I have a question. If we were in 1999, and P.O.D. came out with WAASD, how many albums would sell?

blindsidedbyfierce -> RE: Ok, so this has me worried... (7/1/2008 11:27:35 AM)

^agreed

LionSoulJah -> RE: Ok, so this has me worried... (7/1/2008 6:05:17 PM)

Well, hey, I think it's really smart the way P.O.D. are giving away Shine With Me as a free download. It's just a smart way to get your music out there
