I know this probbably has already been posted but i have been in bootcamp for the past 13 weeks and am now in more training for the next 3 so i havnt had a lot of outside contact.. but i was just wondering what you guys think of the wars going on since i have just joined for the Marines and am now a full Marine and will my MOS will probably have me going to the war for at least 5 to 6 months at a time at some point in time i want to know what your guys outlook on it was. Also what do you guys think of our as well as the other countries millitarys being there, do you think we are doing the right thing?

I think we are doing right by freeing the Iraqi people from what was basically slavery.

Things may have been bad in Iraq...but now they are worse on the bink of civil war everyday the only thing stoping it is the collective hate from all three parties of us....if we weren't there this would be a civil war right now. Saddam was the only thing keeping Iran in check now that's gone thanks to Bush, not saying Saddam was good but he did serve an over all decent purpose he stablized the region. Now it's running a muck with people trying to fill the void. We don't need to be there we never should have in the first place. He had no wmd's he had nothing to do with 9-11. Where is bin laden? Why is he still on the loose? Has america already forgotten? If we'd gone after bin laden like we did saddam he'd already be captured, so wtf?

I know the economy sucks but really that bad? Thank you for your service to the country but i truly believe you are being misused in Iraq.

well to make a new government usualy you have to "destroy" the other throwing what i think the country to be in anarchy.. then from that we make a new order a democratic order which in our countries eyes is better..

Actually, today iraq is pretty stable. The notion that the only thing preventing civil war is that they all hate us, is wrong and sounds like something straight off of Bill Maher's show. At the government level, what we see now is the different factions trying to hash out differences and work thru centuries of distrust. The Sunni are really scared that the Shiites will use their majority status to marginalize the Sunnis---especially since the Sunnis outright abused the Shiites under Sadam. BUt there is certainly a desire among the majority of the Iraqi people from both tribes to build this new nation, free of tyranny.

And we have been searching for Bin Laden. The genreal consensus is that he is hiding in the lawless tribal borderlands of Pakistan. And the only way we could go get him would be to invade Pakistan. I wonder how liberals would feel about THAT?

Archangel, we have had two nephews serve in the Marines in Iraq and one of them also served in Afghanistan. One just got sent home this past weekend from his 2nd tour in Iraq because of severe depression and is now to be listd as undeployable until he can seek the appropriate help. His depression is not related to his Iraq experience--which from all acounts of the many Marines we have contact with is pretty much just boring these days. It's probably from the fact that he was torn away from his new wife to go back only a month after she moved out to Pendelton with him from Michigan. They had been living apart for the first year of marriage while she finished college and he met his commitments to the Marines. He just had enough time to fall in love with her all over again and was taken away for his 2nd tour. Shortly after going, nes reports started surfacing that deployments may last several months longer than originally planned. It was just too much for newly married man to have to face. I say all of that to admonish you to guard yourself---it's not just the battlefield that exacts a toll on those who wear our nation's uniforms---it is the sacrifice you make by even joining those honorable men and women. You will be in my mightly prayers. If you need anything please feel free to le tme know. Marine families stick together.

My opinion on all of this has grown to complete frustration. I am frustrated at our President who probably was more concerned with looking decisive to the world than with actually verifying where to point our guns. I am frustrated with our media for only reporting body counts and civilian casualties, leaving out the victories that occurred when those troops gave their lives. I AM extremely frustrated at the Democratic Party, which never ceases to amaze me at the lows it will sink to in order to regain power. ANd I am fearful for our country as the next four years will likely usher these people into power.

We didnt go to Iraq to free the Iraqi people ONLY.  If that was the only reason, then the US would be hypocrites from not going into many countries and freeing its people, including the US itself.

We went into Iraq because there is this group called al qaeda in the middle east.  there are also several other groups like them.  they are a tiny minority but they are very powerful, mobile, well-funded, and they want to destroy America.  We invaded Iraq, opened up the borders, and now fight al qaeda (which can enter Iraq easily) every day away from home instead of giving them breathing room to come here.  America is safe (for now).  Sectarian violence and the predicament that people are in in Iraq sucks.  But in this world, things suck.  That's why God has his plan of salvation.

The war isn't a war.  It's more of an occupation and facilitation of an effort against people who aren't necessarily Iraqi.  Iraq is just where we chose to do this.  So, this can't really end until we have allies in Iraq who keep up the anti-anti-American policing.

I may be wrong about all of this.  But I believe there is a lot of propaganda that has fooled the hearts and minds of Americans into believing that people are naturally good and will be good if left alone (ie just pull out of the Middle East).  That's a lie.  If we leave our enemies alone, they will come back to bite us.

Oh and by the way my family is from the middle east.  I don't hate the people.  They are MY people.

Honestly... I don't think we had a right to invade Iraq at all.

If we were to invade a country because of the destruction of the twin towers, common sense says we should've found Osama, arrested him, and gotten the fuck out of Afganistan.

I honestly feel bad for our troops.. they shouldn't be made to invade a country we had no buisness invading to begin with because of government agendas.
