so.. i dont wanna sound like anti-catholic or something it is just curiosity.. i was just wonderin about wuv´s shirt in goodbye for now video, which displays the virgin.. why is that ? i mean, are they catholic ?

Pesal -> RE: Wuv (1/23/2006 8:12:24 AM)

Im glad someone else was thinking this too! I know they may have came from Roman Catholic backgrounds but if they call themselves born again Christians then they should be detached from any other believe system. Another problem i have is the picture of sum guy that is supposed to be Jesus looking like a rasta! No one knows what Jesus looks like and the bible says not to have any graven images of things in heaven or earth.  These are just my opnions and no im not judging P.O.D. im just correcting another Christian like when Paul withstood Peter to his face and corrected him on docturine.

trinity -> RE: Wuv (1/23/2006 8:46:15 AM)

It seems to me that you have nothing but negative things to say in your posts.. I dont care what your motive is. Unless you know POD personally I dont think you should speculate nor should anyone else for that matter.. each member of POD is responsible for each of there own relationships with Jesus.. even if they were catholic .. (which I seriously doubt they are) they've still done more for Jesus then you or I put together.. they've reached more kids for Jesus the most of us will ever hope to.. so doctrinal beliefs aside.. I think your issues with there denomination are wacked.. and I judging from all your other posts so far.. your just here to bring down POD .. if I'm wrong then my bad.. but maybe prove me wrong by saying something positive about POD.. who cares what denomination they are anyway!

*shakes head*

oh...you again...I remember you from the "is P.O.D. Christian" thread. I don't know why you even bother coming here, since it seems clear to me that you simply want to make P.O.D. look bad, etc. This is a forum for P.O.D. fans. as for peter and Paul...they knew each other, k? you don't know P.O.D, nor have you spoken with them. There are people here that have, and know that P.O.D. are christians, because they have been with them and seen that example (trinity, MikeG, just ask them they'll tell you.) And just because you can't see that doesn't mean it isn't true. Besides, how can you be correcting "another christian" if you "aren't convinced" that P.O.D are christians anyway? (from the "is P.O.D. christian" thread.)

And as for the graven image thing... no one was bowing down before the dreadlocked Jesus in the "Rock the Party" video, it was just an artist's conception. If graven images are wrong like you say, then is a children's book with pictures that deceipts animals and people wrong? And no, they aren't catholic or rastafarian. First of all, the members of P.O.D. came from non-christian households, not "catholic households" as you say.  http://www.warriorklan.com/history  AND, I don't even think you realize what rastafarianism is, so, do a little bit more research on Rastafarianism (NOT TERRY WATKINS), they are not Rastafarian. And if you don't believe that, stop coming to this forum.

MobyDick -> RE: Wuv (1/23/2006 11:12:15 AM)

its no problem to paint jesus as a human cause he definitely was one once

Pesal -> RE: Wuv (1/23/2006 12:05:50 PM)

All im goin to say is that i expressed my opinion about the topic. Ive listened to P.O.D. for 5 years and loved them but God has layed something on my heart recently and my views are changing about a lot of things. Im not judging anyone and i dont think im better than anyone as im just a sinner saved by grace. It wasnt my intention to annoy anyone.

Selah -> RE: Wuv (1/23/2006 12:07:34 PM)

that's okay, just making sure. I went kind of nuts too, lol.

Pesal -> RE: Wuv (1/23/2006 12:16:10 PM)

No problem. Its just that i think they have changed a lot. I mean back in the day up to satellite they were a lot more on fire for the Lord you know you could really see that they wanted to uplift God. It most more clearer in their lyrics. Even on the live album they had that guy give his testimony. They even stood up for abortion and things like that. But now they seemed to have watered down their Christianity. They have such an influence on people and have a great oppurnity to spread the Gospel through loadas countries in the world. I know i dont always witness for God and im guilty of that. I guess we all are. I dont know i guess i jus think theyve toned down to much. Just my opinion!

bannalounge -> RE: Wuv (1/23/2006 7:39:53 PM)

Damien: "...So what are we testifying to with this album?"
Sonny: "14 years P.O.D. has been around, we been saying the same thing since we first started that there is a God out there that loves you. We have that faith and I believe that keeps us strong, and even though we been in this business and industry you see so many fakes and phonies, and one of the lyrics on our album says if you don't stand for something, then you don't stand for nothing. We have been the same way for 14 years, no changing no gimmicks."

Toonami -> RE: Wuv (1/24/2006 5:35:08 PM)

Catholic = Christian

Catholics are just as right as non-catholic Christians... I seriously wouldn't be surprised if they were Catholic, I mean they're part portugese, italian, latino, and all kinds of things from all cultures so they could have family members that are different denominations and that could rub against them.

p_o_d_freak777 -> RE: Wuv (1/26/2006 11:02:28 AM)

first of all... P.O.D. are not catholics. but catholicism is a branch of christianity. i don't agree with all their theology, but i don't have anything against them. Secondly, it is quite possible for people to display catholic symbols without being catholic. I own a crucifix. I'm not catholic. I have a friend who owns a rosary. shes not catholic. even if they were catholic, whats the big deal? If you don't like it, then don't call yourself their fan. It's quite simple, really.

Toonami -> RE: Wuv (1/26/2006 4:21:03 PM)

If they are Catholic then that's awesome, but we have no evidence for it or against it...the point is Catholics are jsut as right as Christians, this whole thread is stupid...

p_o_d_freak777 -> RE: Wuv (1/27/2006 4:40:33 PM)

agreed

warrior96 -> RE: Wuv (1/29/2006 10:15:54 AM)

Actually P.O.D are not Catholic, but do appreciate the art of the Catholic church.. There is nothing wrong with it.. I too am fascintated by the art of the Catholic church.. There is alot of catholic influence in their culture and they use the art of the Catholic Chruch to express their faith.. Wuv even has a huge tatoo of the virgin mary on his left side.. P.O.D are non denominational Christians.. I have heard Sonny say that with my own ears.

Wuv's dad which started the whole Jesus chain reaction was lead to Christ by Mike Macintosh at the Horizon Christian Fellowship church in San Diego..You can check the church out here www.horizonsd.org/pastor_mike.html

Jah_Drive -> RE: Wuv (8/5/2008 12:27:57 PM)

Hey guys,
I've got a question of my own about Wuv. I'm wondering why he's been nicknamed Wuv since his real name is Noah Bernardo. Can you folks help me out with that? Also too...

I've been reading previous posts on this thread and I've noticed that it changed from a discussion of Wuv wearing a shirt with a virgin symbol to "is P.O.D. Catholic or Christian" to "don't judge", etc. It was pretty darn interesting reading your comments. Most of you were saying "Don't judge if you don't know the guys personally." For the most part, I do agree with that. We can't decide for certain if we do not know the guys closely, which we don't. However, what we CAN decide on are the attitudes and actions of the band members. If they do something which is against Scripture, then we can say that this action is wrong. However, we need to also remember to be kind and loving as well. Matthew chapter 7 (which most of you are quoting) is actually against hypocritical judgments - just read the context. Christ NEVER used this sermon to completely prohibit judgments and decisions about whether someone or something is godly or not. This is because it even says that we shall know false preachers "by their fruit". Seems like we can judge to me. However, I don't want to anger you guys too much, so I'll keep this short before I say something I'll regret later. As for P.O.D. being Christians...I believe that they are. First, I have seen quotes by the hypocrite and P.O.D. hater Terry Watkins (www.av1611.org) that are from the band members. His quotes say that the band members don't regret their druggie days because they had a little "fun". This might make you think that the guys are wicked and unsaved. However, the opening track of the band's newest album When Angels and Serpents Dance says in the chorus (about addictions such as drugs) "Why do I love you/When I know you're wrong?" Seems to me like P.O.D. DOES regret their earlier druggie days to me! Also, I have seen numerous videos on Youtube where Sonny has sat down and talked with the media and with Christian pastors. Sonny has said in those interviews that he once heard of some kids who were doing drugs when they heard the "Alive" hit song on the radio. After the kids heard the song, they stopped doing drugs. Sonny went on to say that this is what P.O.D. is exactly about! Amazing! I couldn't believe my ears! Sonny has COMPLETELY contradicted Terry Watkins here! *grins* That made my night and I have rejoiced before the Lord on this. Once I find the actual address for the Youtube video, I'll post it. By the way, if you guys still want to read Terry Watkins crap, the article on his website is entitled "What about P.O.D.?" I'm not taking it seriously anymore. See y'all later.

Don't breathe in Babylon!

Sincerely,
Nick White

trubywarrior -> RE: Wuv (8/5/2008 1:47:43 PM)

Sonny stated in a recent interview that he came from a Catholic background but that he was a born-again Christian. Whether that means his community is Catholic as he didn't have a Christian upbringing, or when he first became a Christian it was through the Catholic church I don't know. But he made it clear, even if he still worships in a Catholic church that he is a born again Christian, meaning he believes Christ has died for his sins and that he is forgiven. I can only speculate that it's a similar thing with Wuv as he and Sonny grew up together and Wuv's dad, as has already been stated, started the whole Jesus chain reaction in their family. What I do know is that Wuv thanked Jesus in his thank you's on the Testify album and Sonny said in the full length version of his video Testimony that Wuv came to faith at an early age (presumably because he had witnessed the power of God in his own father's life). I believe Wuv has a strong faith, in his podcast at the going in blind video shoot he said that he'd been listening to old skool P.O.D. recently and how it would be cool to write lyrics like those again, but that there was no real need to as they've already written them. So as someone already quoted Sonny from a Testify interview in 14 years they haven't changed.

Wuv and Sonny's grandmother Noni (R.I.P.) used to call Noah "love". But with her Italian accent it sounded more like "Wuv". The nickname stuck since.

Jah_Drive -> RE: Wuv (8/6/2008 6:56:26 PM)

Well, guys. It's me again. I just wanted to say thanks for answering my question about Wuv. I never knew that it was because about his grandmother. That's cool that P.O.D. loves their families. There aren't too many bands you could say that about. Big thumbs up![:)]

Also too, I have to apologize for something. When I posted my previous post, I didn't realize until it was posted that the thread had been over 2 years old! How embarrasing! I ALWAYS do this when I'm new on a forum...I don't know why. I hope you guys can forgive me. I have taken flack before on more Christian boards for this, so I wasn't sure what the reaction was going to be. I was just intrigued by the topic, and angered by some of the responses by some of you (and the hypocritical ones by others) and I felt that I had to respond. I hope you folks can forgive me. *sighs* I just hope my glories can outweigh and outshine my mistakes.

By the way, about my previous post...I said that once I had the Youtube address for the video about Sonny and the church leaders and how people have come out of drugs because of P.O.D.'s music - that I would post it. Well...here is that address: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1kDvjohPDo  It's from the account called "youthleadersonly".

God bless you all,

Warrior Chaz -> RE: Wuv (8/8/2008 11:50:02 PM)

Just to clarify I know exactly what Sonny is saying when he says he wasn't raised in a Christian home but he has a Catholic background. I have the same story. The thing with most Catholics is it's a tradition that's passed on generation to generation and theres no real relationship with Jesus. I was raised Catholic but my family wasn't living for God at all, God wasn't a big part of anything. You just go to church on Sundays, do your first communion, say some memorized prayers, baptize your babies and it's just a ritual. Then you go sin all week and repent to the priest on Sunday, if you even do that. So that's where Sonny is coming from when he says, he wasn't raised in a Christian home although I'm sure his family was "Catholic" while they were doing drugs or whatever. Atleast that's my experience and it's the same for almost all my friends who have been born-again that come from "Catholic" familys. I would never say I came from a Christian home. I can't speak for everyone but I can speak from my personal experiences.

mr_dreadlocks -> RE: Wuv (8/10/2008 10:11:47 PM)

Wuv was actually 'Wuvy', but when he hit high school he dropped the Y cause it was too childish.

I think that P.O.D. have every right to say, wear, and sing whatever they want, and portray Jesus how they want, dreaded or not. I'm not a fan of P.O.D. for the religion, (although it's better to listen to than most death metal) so they have my permission to do it, and I won't go up in arms when they put up a picture of a Rasta-Jesus.

Costa Rican Warrior -> RE: Wuv (12/19/2008 10:26:44 AM)

Hey guys!!! I'm just new in the forum so hello to everyone!

Well i've been interested in all this conversation. I've seen how some people out there tells that P.O.D. is not christian anymore or things like that, bla bla bla....[:-]

I've been listening to P.O.D. since 2003 and when I started listening to them one of the first things that some people told me was "they're not christians anymore". But i didn't believe it because their lyrics showed me that they have a great faith... Anyways i started to research the deal.

Over all my research i've found that they are truly 100% christians, but the thing is that christian people complains when another christian is famous... that's hypocrite and selfish! They've done a great work showing God's love by their songs around the world and God uses their famousness to impact the lifes not only of the christians but also of the people that needs Him.

By the other hand, i admire P.O.D. because they do things with excellence and WE have to imitate that. Why a son of God cannot have success and be famous? In deed we must have success!!!!! We're not here just to share with other christians, we're here to spread the Message through the entire world, even to the people that is in drugs or things like that. And how can we speak to a non-christian person if we talk only with christian terms that those people doesn't identify?

Anyways, i know that this topic is about Wuv and his layout but I just wanted to speak about this things that i consider important, they are the roots of their music.

It doesn't have to be difference between catholics and non-catholics. I'm protestant but not for that i will turn my back to catholics, nooo! You're christian if you accepted Jesus in your heart and if you gave your life to Him, as He's the Saviour, that's it!!! No matter which religion do you practice, God is interested only in your heart!

God bless you homies!!!!
