I'm sure that many of you have already heard about the album, but for those who haven't heard it's set for release on May 18th and they are releasing the first track on February 23 for free download off their site. I'm very excited although it is really sad seeing deftones without chi I'm still overjoyed to hear a fresh batch of deftones.

Well I hope every one takes advantage of the free download. After listening to the track about twenty times I think I can say that I like it and it feels fresh and a lot less dark than most previous deftones tracks I've been trying to avoid listening to depressing/dark music lately so when I read that Diamond Eyes was going to be an overall optimistic album I got pretty excited.

Not their best at all, but it sounds very good though... And I wouldn't say that it's less dark than some of their previous songs, but I can't know, I haven't listened to this one twenty times yet to build a constructive critic :p
Anyway, May 18th will be a date to remember, and yeah even without Chi, but even if it's still very sad, the world musn't stop because of that :)

Rocket Skates is not a particularly less dark deftones track it's just that it doesn't seem to contain that deep sadness that the majority of deftones tracks have. I've also heard that the band is still planing to release Eros.

Well The album is out tomorrow every one ready? I'm very optimistic right now, but I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

I've had it for a few weeks now. It is really, really amazing. So optimistic yet rocks harder than the band has in a long time, maybe ever. Almost as good as White Pony in my books.

before I gave up listening to Deftones White Pony was my fav album, glad their getting back to that level again. I heard on their last album there was some anti-Christian sentiments is there any truth to that?

I'm really enjoying this album It's actually way better than I was expecting it to be and it's actually a really uplifting listening experience. Definitely their best since White Pony.

Not to my knowledge. Saturday Night Wrist was a good album, not even close to their best though. Chino has always written in a very poetic and suggestive way, anyway, so I wouldn't be all that worried if there's something suspicious about some text he does. It's all open for interpretation, as with Tool, for instance.

Just checked - there is nothing overly disturbing really except for the song Pink Cellphone.

Maynard James Keenan, you mean? Well, he surely attacked religion quite boldly on the first Tool album, but since then the whole band has grown and matured. They have very spiritual songs these days, and I think they are more open-minded, as well. I feel like they never attacked on Christianity or believing in something as much as organized religion, anyway. "Jesus won't you f*cking whistle, something but the past and done" is one of the lines from their debut and it really just shows that they are/were spiritually misguided at the time. Maybe I'm defending them for no reason but I still love the kind of secular music that is multi-interpretational and musically challenging - just like Deftones and Tool are.

both talented bands for sure I just have always been uncomfortable with anti-Christian sentiments in lyrics.
