Who do you think they are referring to as "we" in the line "why must WE kill in the name of what WE think is right"? WE Americans or WE humans?

Further, who do you think they are referring to when they say "there's blood on your hands, a smile on your face, with wicked intention, when there's money to be made"? Again, America? George Bush? Humanity in general?

They also talk about the "hate in your eyes, the lies on your tongue, a hand that kills the innocent".

These are extremely harsh words for whom ever they refer. I have a feeling they are referring to America and/or George Bush.

I have a feeling you're right, rabbitt. Marcos has specifically mentioned the Middle East when talking about the song. He seems to be the only one to talk about the song. I guess he wrote it himself. That'd make sense, because the U.S. has been at war the whole time since he left, and P.O.D. hasn't had anything negative to say about it until now.

I haven't loved every single song P.O.D. has put out, but honestly, I hate this song. It just makes me angry. P.O.D. tries to be inspirational and whatnot, but this kind of talk doesn't help. They're just jumping on the bandwagon with every other band with an anti-war message.

Besides, it's sure to kill any momentum "Addicted" has garnered (not that I've heard it on the radio or seen it on tv at all), because they choose to play it instead of "Addicted" every time they have an audience.

Pick a single, guys. Pick. A. Single.

this song is pretty nice but nothing too special.  it's a really nice change to see the boys putting something like this together.  it is somewhat of a typical message but i dont think its just about anti-war.  this song is a crying out and a lamentation about how we as humans are so sinful that we kill our own neighbors.  i dont see sonny as completely anti war, maybe marcos.  who cares.  i am not anti-war but i still cry out with victims of violence and ask God why it has to happen.  i know why it has to happen, because there is sin in this world.  but it is still beautiful to sing about it and lament about it.

I love the song, but i dont understand lyrically if its aimed at Americas leadership or not...Its weird just because u listen to it and than listen to Freedom Fighters and its hard to know where they stand...I love the boys no matter what but I as well thought it wasnt the best choice for Leno....BUT Sonny has never sounded better live than he did that night

Freedom Fighters doesn't really have anything to do with literally fighting.

I think the song is just beign honest about war, and dictatorships, and injustice int he world.  'The rich keep getting richer, while the poor become slaves'..

I doubt its specifically about the USa, but selfsih humanity in General. I love the song, should have been the single.... Its a very good song!!

I disliked this song for a while but its starting to grow on me. But what the heck does "if victory is freedom then the truth is untold" and "if love is my religion don't speak for myself" mean? They make 0 sense to me and kill all the momentum in the song when I listen to it. And freedom fighters was a song about being a warrior. I dont think our literal troops "shine Jah."

"if victory is freedom then the truth is untold"

I think its a way of saying true victory is freedom, but it hasnt happened.

So this truth is yet to exist.

I believe that I read that Marcos wrote the song. What I got from " if victory is freedom, then the truth is untold", is towards the current war in Iraq. When some of the people in government were saying progression is being made, and that iraqis are totally free now. With "if love is my religion, don't speak for myself" that there was/is too much talk about Islam vs. Christianity, them vs. us.

I think Freedom Fighters is more about living spiritually free despite the devil's attempts to make us slaves to sin again.  I guess it can also be for real fighters.

the song is about evil people who use war for their own advantage.

it's not just talking about the u.s. or the middle east or war lords in africa...imo it's aimed at evil people who unjustly kill people and cause wars for their own interests.

they all claim that they are doing it for the freedom of their people/beliefs, but when everything is said and done, they've only done it for themselves.

this could be said for both u.s. and middle east leaders

quote:

"if victory is freedom then the truth is untold"

kind of what i said before...evil leaders spread lies to their people about how if our side wins then we will live in freedom. but in the end that's not the truth. these people end up being more repressive than the people they "saved" their people from.

quote:

"if love is my religion don't speak for myself"

most leaders claim to be speaking for a certain group of people...most of the time the people they are speaking for don't even agree with the leader who is speaking for them. a good example of this was suddam hussein. sonny is saying his religion is love and he doesn't need some leader (no matter who it is) saying otherwise.

i hope this helps.

The key to understanding P.O.D. songs is looking at them from a spiritual side rather then physical in most cases. Freedom Fighters had nothing to do with our troops....allot of people took it that way and if that's what you get out of it then that's cool but it's about standing up and being a warrior for God.

"Freedom Fighters
Ignite Jah
Freedom Fighters
Shine Jah"

"Live free, Be free
Jah say live free
Jah say die free
Live free, Jah say die free
Live free, Jah say be free
I and I, Live free
I and I, Die free"

Jah is God. It's just like "Asthma" is not about literally suffocating, it's about being born-again. "Satellite" is not about a literal satellite.
